There are nine Central Labor Councils (CLC) in Alabama with jurisdictional areas from three to fourteen counties each. Local Unions affiliate with the Central Labor Councils to carry out programs of the AFL-CIO.

 

Central Labor Councils help local unions in their jurisdiction with organizing, community services, civil rights issues, voter registration and education of the members they serve. They encourage the sale and use of union made products and strive to increase public understanding of the labor movement.

 

Central Labor Councils screen and endorse candidates running for office within their jurisdiction. They also screen and make recommendations for state house and state senate endorsements to the Alabama AFL-CIO. They lobby local politicians on issues and concerns to workers in their jurisdiction.
